Few essential oils are as iconic or as beloved as Frankincense. In this doTERRA podcast episode, we get a whole new perspective on the sacred resin and powerful oil.
Emily Wright, doTERRA founder and essential oil pioneer, joins our hosts, Paige and Saimoni, to share the story behind two of the latest doTERRA products: Frankincense Boswellic Acid Complex and Frankincense Stick + Naio Wood.
From discussing the science of boswellic acids to exploring the deep cultural roots in Oman, this episode is an incredible look at how innovation and tradition come together in one of most meaningful doTERRA product launches to date.

The episode opened with excitement over the two new Frankincense-based products—both launched at last year’s convention but years in the making.
Emily shared the dream of combining Frankincense essential oil with boswellic acids actually started in a product planning meeting back in 2017. “We just thought—what if we could bring the whole plant together? The volatile compounds from the [essential] oil and the boswellic acids from the resin? That would be incredible.”
And now it’s here, thanks to years of research and careful formulation.
Boswellic acids are powerful compounds found in the nonvolatile portion of frankincense resin. That means they don’t appear in distilled essential oil, but they’re present in what’s left after distillation.
This byproduct—a sticky slurry—is rich in boswellic acids, but extracting it isn’t easy. Emily explained, “You have to dry it, separate it, and stabilize it. But once we figured out how to blend it with the [essential] oil in a capsule, the results were amazing.”
That’s how Frankincense Boswellic Acid Complex was born: a microbead capsule that brings together the best of both parts of the plant in one convenient form!
This innovative pairing lets you experience Frankincense in a more complete way, supporting overall wellness from the inside out.
Emily shared she takes one capsule every morning. “I want to stay mentally sharp into my hundreds. I want to feel well and protect my cells, and this is a simple step I take every day to support that.”
The team also discussed how Frankincense essential oil can be used:
As always, follow product label instructions and consult your healthcare provider if you have questions about using essential oils internally.
Frankincense Stick + Naio Wood makes daily wellness convenient, easy, and family-friendly.
Emily uses it on her hands, face, neck, and even grandkids. “It’s so easy to apply, and my grandchildren love using it. It’s a simple way to support your skin and bring in the benefits of Frankincense,” she said.
For an added boost, she recommended placing a drop of Frankincense essential oil on top of the stick before application. “I’m a maximizer,” she said, laughing. “I want the full benefit in the least amount of time.”
This episode is about product innovation, as well as reverence.
Emily reflected on her first trip to Oman, visiting the groves where frankincense trees grow. “You’re standing in this dry, rocky soil, touching these ancient trees that people have tried for centuries to transplant, but they only grow here. There’s something sacred about that,” she said.
Frankincense resin is hand-harvested and passed down from father to son, generation to generation. doTERRA works directly with those communities through sustainable sourcing, ensuring the tradition continues—with respect and responsibility.
“Frankincense is known as the ‘king of oils’ for a reason. It’s versatile, powerful, and sacred. And with these two new products, we’ve made it easier than ever to incorporate that power into your life.”
Whether you’re using it to support your routine, to connect with history, or to simply enjoy its aroma, Frankincense offers something for everyone.
