Lemon Oil and Cardiovascular Health

Lemon essential oil is an extremely popular essential oil prized for its wide array of health benefits. Because of its tremendous popularity, it is consistently a focus of academic study as researchers around the world strive to better understand the profound effects offered by lemon essential oil use. A recent study performed by Korean scientists examined the effect of lemon essential oil and isolated limonene (the primary constituent of lemon essential oil) on a model of cardiovascular health.

Their findings showed that lemon essential oil provided the highest cardiovascular benefit, even more than limonene alone. This suggests that other, more minor constituents of lemon essential oil are at least partly responsible for the observed positive cardiovascular effects. The authors of the study went further to conclude that lemon essential oil improved measures of cardiovascular health due to its powerful antioxidant properties. These findings, though not conclusive, indicate the need to further investigate the potential cardioprotective effects of lemon essential oil.*
