Chemistry of Helichrysum Essential Oil

If I had to recommend a single essential oil to prove the instant efficacy of plants, there is no doubt that I would recommend Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum ssp) for its exceptional skin-health benefits. This aromatic plant of the Asteraceae family is found in its wild state in the dry, rocky, and sunny regions of the Mediterranean, such as Corsica, Sardinia, Calabria, and Croatia.

The biochemistry of Helichrysum essential oil is not similar to other plants in the region. Even among regions of the island of Corsica, the molecules can change according to whether the essential oil comes from the north, the center, or the south of the island. The most interesting molecules are Neryl Acetate (a terpenic ester) and the italidones I, II, III (terpenic ketones) as well as 60 other various and diverse molecules.

Helichrysum is highly efficient in improving the appearance of the skin. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles and promotes a glowing, youthful complexion. Apply the essential oil in a small concentration in carrier oil.

Helichrysum essential oil can also be used orally to promote a healthy metabolism.*

In conclusion, if it is necessary to have a portable oil on hand in all circumstances, it will be Helichrysum essential oil, this treasure of unique fragrance from the Mediterranean basin.
