Today we're excited to talk to Samantha Sargent about supplementing your diet. Samantha, thank you so much for sitting down with us today.

Samantha Sargent: Yeah, thank you.

Why We Need Supplements

doTERRA: This is a topic I am so excited to talk about and so I want to dive right in with my first question, which is, do I actually need to take a supplement?

Samantha: Right. And the answer for me is yes.

I actually worked at a health food store that my mom owned for about five years, and I tried a lot of vitamins there. We had a lot of different brands to choose from, lots of people that would inform and educate. And I never felt any different. And then I actually, when I started doTERRA it, was one of the incentives so I got a Lifelong Vitality Pack for free. And then three months later, it was still sitting there. And I'm like, you know, I got it for free. Okay. Let me just try this. So, I use them. And I was like, yeah, I feel pretty good.

And then by like the seventh day, I was like, Wow. I wasn't taking naps anymore. I used to get really, really tired about 3:00, and I allow myself to take a nap when I'm tired. But I was like, wow, I'm really making it through.

I think it was about a year before I actually missed a day. They were so impactful that I never missed a day. And then one day I missed, and I was like, what is wrong with me? I'm so tired. I'm so different. And I was like, oh my gosh, I forgot my vitamins. So, I've added much more to it since then.

But the Lifelong Vitality is definitely that foundational piece that must be there.

doTERRA: Absolutely. And that's incredible. And what are some of those vitamins and minerals that we are needing to supplement every day?

Samantha: You know, I tell people a lot of times that it's so great that doTERRA is holistic and they do the research. It's science. So, for me, I'm one of those people that if it works, I trust it and I keep using it.

So, I will always send people like that well, the paperwork basically, that we have in the back office and it talks about the balance of everything. We need the minerals. And what I really love about the doTERRA. I also tell people that it's infused with essential oils to help with digestion and absorption, which other companies don't do.

So, my brain feels better functioning. My gut, that's one that I've added every single day. I take a deep blue pill.

The Difference of High-Quality Supplements

doTERRA: Yes. And you mentioned you have this kind of history with health foods and supplements and things. How is it that I can tell the difference between a high-quality supplement and something that is lower quality? That's not going to give me the same results.

Samantha: I have people ask me questions like that all the time, too, and it takes me back to my mom worked for chiropractors as I was growing up before she opened her health food store, and the chiropractor brought me into his office one day to look at the old film slides on the light up board and through someone's colon. You could see all these oblong shaped dots throughout the whole colon. And I was like, what is that? And he's like, those are vitamins. Those are tablet vitamins that are condensed like a rock and see them going all the way through and out.

They don't do the absorption is not there. That's why I love that ours are gel caps and powders where we can literally open them up and put them in their smoothie or swallow them. And we know that that pill is dissolving within a couple of minutes. So, the things inside of that are actually working in our body.

Samantha’s Favorite doTERRA Products

doTERRA: And you've mentioned a couple different doTERRA products so far. What are the supplements that doTERRA has for overall health?

Samantha: The Lifelong Vitality is, again, that foundational overall health piece. And then for someone like me, the Deep Blue is one of those where I just know if I don't take it, that I'm going to have that that tightness in my back. I also use the TriEase every day. I deal with seasonal issues, and when I take those on a regular basis, I do not have any major issues with those things.

doTERRA: Well, those are incredible. Like you said that Lifelong Vitality is such a foundation for health and really gets you started on the right foot. And then, like you said, you're adding the specific things on top of it that your body needs. Now, what are some of the other more specialized, so to speak, supplements that doTERRA has that are targeting specific things in your body?

Samantha: Well, the MetaPWR System is incredible. It's super diverse, and it really allows people to continue doing whatever regimen they're doing with a lifestyle eating pattern or a diet. The options that you have between the pill and the gum and the beadlets and the gel caps. I think doTERRA does a great job of giving us all those options. And a few years back, they educated a lot of us on habit stacking, how we can slowly add things in or potentially take things out based on what our body is saying to us and how to listen to that ourselves.

doTERRA: Absolutely. And I think you're so right, that habit stacking component is so key. And another thing you mentioned in the answer is the lifestyle aspect that comes with it. I think with all supplementation, that's something that we still need to pay a lot of attention to. If we're supplementing and we're not seeing results, we may need to look at our diet or if we're moving our body every day, or if we are bringing in things that have high toxic loads into our life. There's ways that all of this connects and works together.

And so, it's so amazing in that way that it helps in every aspect. But that also means we need to pay attention to the different aspects.

Samantha: Exactly. I like to remind people we can't eat a box of donuts every day and say, it's okay, I take my vitamins every day because that doesn't really go together.

Daily Supplement Routine

doTERRA: Exactly. Now, Samantha, before we end, you've mentioned a few different products here, and they are so incredible. Can you just walk us through your daily routine with your supplements and how they fit in everyday?

Samantha: For sure, because the one part we hadn't talked about yet is the nighttime routine, which I have to love. So, basically, I don't typically eat breakfast. I do intermittent fasting, so usually I'll eat around lunchtime. My biggest meal of the day and then a regular dinner as well. But when I do eat breakfast or lunch, I always take my vitamins with food. I have a really sensitive stomach, so I know if I just drink water and the vitamins, they hit my stomach too hard. So, I always eat them with my food. It's the Lifelong Vitality, the Deep Blue Polyphenol, the TriEase.

I used to take some in the morning and some in the evening, but for me, my body likes it all at once. Sometimes if I take the Lifelong Vitality with dinner, like even a half dose, it gives me too much energy. And then I have to take more of the nighttime vitamins than I would like to add. I feel like it was wasting that second dose with the LLV. So, before bed. So, basically at lunch I take a big stack of vitamins, which I love. A lot of people say, oh, that seems like a huge pile.

Like, that's a lot. And I'm like, no, this is necessary. And I would never skip it for anything. And then at night, I love to take to Serenity pills and an Adaptiv pill. It really helps me just relax and take everything off my mind. And I do feel like I'm on a cloud. I feel a little bit euphoric and just happy. I have a Fitbit, so it actually tells me I hit the nineties at least once a week on my Fitbit versa sleep score, which is excellent. I'm typically in the eighties.

doTERRA: That is incredible. And I have tried that combination of the Serenity softgels and the Adaptiv softgels. And like you said, it, it works. It's amazing.

Samantha: It's so good. I know a lot of people that do Serenity and Copaiba, the pill, and so that works really well for them, too. And that's the beautiful thing, is you can switch it up and our sleep has so much to do with the activity that we have that day and what we're preparing our brains for the next day. So, that's just kind of a part of the daily routine to getting rid of all the thoughts of that day, preparing for the next day, and then letting it go so we can have a nice sleep.
