Making Positive Changes

Making lasting changes can be difficult, and we could all use some help to be a little more successful. Today, we'll talk about a few ways to make changing a little bit easier. Today we're excited to talk to Scott Greer, director of marketing for doTERRA, about how to make positive changes in your life and how the doTERRA 30 days of Metabolic Health Support can help. Scott, thank you so much for being with us today.

Thank you for having me. I'm excited to be here today.

We are so excited to talk about this topic because it is one that comes up with every new year because change is always a big theme of New Year's, right? So why is that? Why is it that New Year's is so often the time when people decide to make changes?

Well, I think that the new year represents to a lot of people this control of what lies ahead. The way to adapt their life into what they want it to be. In fact, in marketing, we call that the idealized self. And so a lot of people look at what do I want to become? Not necessarily what I am. And that's why New Year's can be a really powerful time to make some big changes in your life.

Absolutely. And I think we've all come to recognize these old-fashioned New Year's resolutions start and peter out pretty fast after New Year's. To make those successful, why is it that sometimes structure can be so important when making these changes in our lives?

Yeah, I love the term structure, and I think one of the key psychological concepts I'd like to help with is a framework, actually. And I love frameworks, and I think that the reason it's so powerful when you put a structure or a framework in place is because it helps you adhere to like some principles and not necessarily if you mess up on something, it doesn't mean that everything has to fall by the wayside, but you reflect back onto the framework. And then you can very quickly get back on board with what's trying to go on with whatever change you're trying to make, whether it's at work, at home or in your personal life.

That's one of the things that I really believe is a key to being successful in scaling something to be successful.

I love that it's progression, not perfection, that we're looking for. And along with that structure, that framework, why is having a group to support you and be accountable too also helpful when making these changes to your habits?

You know, I've done a lot of leadership training in my life, and I think an accountability partner is always powerful. It's a lot like if you went out and you bought a Mazda car and then all of a sudden you look around and everybody has a Mazda car. I think your brain has this little function that turns on and you can start seeing that if you have like-minded people around you, you start seeing how they're implementing their frameworks or structures and you have this reinforcing value that comes out and allows you to kind of look forward to that future and see other people making progress and that you're making progress. And that really helps that collective group energy really helps propel people forward.

Yes, And I think that's such a positive mindset of rising together and everyone propping each other up and going for that success. Now, though, doTERRA is starting something in January, and I want you to tell us a little bit about it. So can you tell us about the 30 days of Metabolic Health Support?

Yeah, that's a free support system that doTERRA is providing to help people on their journey with what we're calling the Power to Be ______, whatever you want to be. And if I could just back up for a second, instead of setting New Year's resolutions, what we're hoping people can do is create this mantra or theme for the year. And what that allows you to do is like, let me just pretend for a minute I said, I'm not going to eat sugar is my New Year's resolution. And I do great for January 1st through the 14th, and then I get to the time around a Super Bowl party and somebody has a cookie or an ice cream that I want to have.

And so I go get it. I'm like, “Oh, I just blew my New Year's resolution. I'm done,” kind of have a failure moment. I think that's kind of passé now. And a lot of a lot of the movements are moving towards, Hey, what can I pattern my life around? Or what word could I use to define this year for me? So whether you, you know, choose to be bold or purposeful or decisive or powerful or whatever that word happens to be, we've allowed this moment for people to reflect, given them some resources, do that, and then hopefully based around some healthy nutritional metabolic health pieces, they can make those improvements.

And it's really tough if you're doing that alone. Like if you just pick a word and you're like, Now what do I do? What doTERRA has tried to do this year is provide 30 days of free support put together by doctors here at our Prime Meridian clinic and a whole health coaching program to help you kind of jumpstart that and then start making those framework decisions in your life and those support decisions in your life that can help lead to massive changes or minor changes, whatever you'd like it to be, but to help you along. And instead of trying to go find that support system, we're giving it freely to the world this year.

So I think it's going to be pretty amazing.

I think so too. And I just want to echo what you said. The thought and the effort that has gone into this is just so incredible. Now, if we can ask, what are you looking forward to gaining through these 30 days in January?

You know, I appreciate you asking that question. And just be very personal for a second. I've been on my own personal health journey trying to get healthy. I actually have a health procedure coming up. And so I've been working really hard at trying to make sure I'm in the optimal state. And so that's what I'm going to be using this for. I've been using the MetaPWR System for a while now, lost over 20 pounds, and I'm really enjoying that. And so I'm hoping continuing on with healthy habits and maybe reinforcing some of the structures or frameworks that I've put in in my life.

Through this program I can implement a few more changes to get me down to maybe three or four pounds more now, which is perfect, I think, for what I want to do. And I've talked to my doctor about that and he's very supportive about that for the procedure. So that's what I'm going to be using this to get ready for.

That's amazing. And we wish you, of course, the best of luck and hope the system helps you. Now, Scott, before we end, can you just give us a quick summary of why you think that everyone should participate in the 30 days of Metabolic Health Support?

And I have a favorite quote by Pablo Picasso I'd love to share with you here really quick. It says, “Action is the foundational key to all success.” And so I'm very excited that people can make a theme or a mantra and then have something that they can do, an action they can take that they know will be reliable, that they know I have 30 days of someone helping me this. And I think that's just an incredible gift to the world that doTERRA is giving. And the stuff in this program is powerful. It's, you know, fact-based. It's got oil principles; it's got metabolic health principles.

It's just such a great program. So I'm excited to see what people do with it. And I'm excited to see people share their stories about what their years are going to be like. And I'm hoping that I get to hear those stories even in September and October and November as people reflect on whether or not they did that. And just personally, as I come up with my theme for this next year, my wife and I have been talking about this and we've been dabbling with a couple of different ideas. We're going to try and do this as a couple. We're going to put this up all around us so that we see the power to be like, what's our word? And we've come up with a few different words.

And so we're still debating that, but that's a fun one. So I would just hope that everybody can A) see that they can make this this theme a big part of their lives, and B) make the changes that they want to make. Because I believe that all this is in our power and we have the ability to do these changes if we'll just follow some great principles.
