Today, we're excited to talk to Lacey Grim about how you can get your best rest. Lacey, thank you so much for being here with us today.

Lacey Grim: Yeah, thank you. I'm so excited!

doTERRA: This is a topic that obviously affects everyone. Everyone has to sleep. So can you tell us maybe what are some of the common reasons that I might not be getting my best sleep?

Lacey: Oh, my goodness. Right now, there are just so many different reasons, right? The world falling apart, maybe. I think generally speaking, though, as a mom, I can say that that's probably the main reason I don't sleep, is just thinking about motherly things, how maybe I forgot to do something, or worrying about my kids. And really, just that element of just your brain kind of not being able to shut off is generally for people, I think, especially these days, what keeps them from really having the best sleep.

doTERRA: Absolutely. So with all the craziness in our lives, what are some lifestyle changes that we can make to make sure we're helping to promote more restful sleep for ourselves?

Lacey: So for me, a couple of the things that matter most. First of all, food. What I eat makes a big difference in how I sleep, especially at the hours before I'm going to sleep. So I try to be careful about what I'm eating. I have to cut out caffeine and sometimes alcohol can interfere with how I sleep. So I just have to be aware of those things.

But also what I'm doing before I go to bed is really a key component for me. I try to cut off screen time at about 9:00 pm so that by the time I'm ready for sleep, I'm actually mentally prepared for sleep as well.

doTERRA: I think those are great tips to try and incorporate into our lives. Especially I think the screen time is one that we forget a lot when we're surrounded by screens and they're so easily accessible.

Lacey: Yeah, and it can feel really relaxing to kind of just scroll through a news feed. But the truth is, it sets our brain off on this like mission to solve all the world’s problems. And then we go to sleep thinking, “Oh, I'm just going to sleep on that and solve it while I'm sleeping.” And it doesn’t—it never happens.

doTERRA: If only it could.

Lacey: If only it could. Yeah, so I think that the other thing I forgot to mention would be just physical activity. I think one of the key components for me as well is just getting outside and being outside as much as I possibly can and at least being physically active so that when it comes time to sleep, my body is actually physically tired and not just mentally drained, but physically tired so that I can sleep more restfully as well.

doTERRA: I think that's wonderful. So pivoting from kind of the lifestyle changes into more of the essential oils, what are some of your favorite essential oils to help encourage a restful environment for yourself?

Lacey: Oh, my goodness. So I think sometimes we think about sleep in just that time period before we go to sleep, those hours before we go to sleep there, maybe as it gets dark, but we really should be thinking about it even when we wake up and setting routines and habits that kind of set the tone for the beginning of the day and then set the tone for the middle of the day and then for the end. And also supporting ourselves through all of that.

One of the major players for me now is Adaptiv™. The Adaptiv supplement just makes me feel more even throughout the day and then also when it comes time for sleeping. So that's a huge key player for me.

And then Serenity Complex, the supplement as well, is a really powerful way for me too from an internal state, just be at my most relaxed. And yeah, I couldn't live without those two for sure.

doTERRA: So you mentioned the importance of setting those routines and keeping them consistent. Can you walk us through your bedtime routine?

Lacey: Yeah, sure! So I actually have a variety of oils on my nightstand, and I have Balance. I have Adaptiv, I have a few blends of my own that I've made. They usually involve Sandalwood. Sandalwood is a really big one for me. And Frankincense, also really big. And then the floral oils I have there as well. They just feel very luxurious and like something I can do before I go to bed to just kind of pamper myself a little bit. And that pampering really helps me set a tone for luxury and calm and all of those things.

So while I can't control all of the inputs are the things going on around me, I can kind of control that one little piece that's right next to my bed. And it's just a proactive thing that I can do. But, yeah, just massage it into my feet. I'll put it on behind my ears. Sometimes I'll even just rub it on my pillow. And that way I can kind of control my sleep environment.

doTERRA: And I love that sentiment of having some more control over your environment through the essential oils. I think that's beautiful.

Lacey: Yeah, it feels nice. It feels nice to have some power.

doTERRA: Well, Lacey, thank you so much for sitting down and talking with us today and for giving us some more tips about how we can have that power back and control our rest environment.

Lacey: Oh, I hope it's so helpful for people! So thanks for chatting with me.
