Summary: doTERRA On Guard® Mouthwash is a powerful new addition to the doTERRA On Guard family and your oral hygiene regimen.
As a new addition to the doTERRA On Guard collection, doTERRA On Guard Mouthwash was launched at the 2018 Dream convention. No shortcuts were taken in the development of a mouthwash product that would be natural and alcohol free while maintaining a clear consistency. Aside from these developmental achievements, how does it perform? For the answer to that question, let’s explore the science of doTERRA On Guard Mouthwash.
The Science of Oral Health
In 2011, doTERRA launched the doTERRA On Guard Natural Whitening Toothpaste, which uses the power of the doTERRA On Guard blend specifically for oral hygiene. From the convention stage, Dr. David Hill presented data on the toothpaste’s benefits. The doTERRA On Guard toothpaste was shown to significantly improve tooth color by 34 percent and reduce plaque formation by 63 percent after just three weeks of use.
Another important indicator of oral hygiene is oral pH. We all have bacteria in our mouths and the bacteria feed off of the food particles that get left behind on our teeth. When the bacteria consume these particles, their metabolic process ends with the excretion of acid, which they deposit onto the surface of our teeth. It’s the acid left behind by bacteria that degrades our enamel and creates oral problems. This is why toothpaste generally acts as a base to neutralize the acid on our teeth as we brush. If our oral pH falls too low (acidic), it can damage the enamel on our teeth.
A healthy oral pH falls within the range of 6.5–7.4. One of the functions of saliva is to act as an acid/base buffer by balancing oral pH after we eat, but poor oral hygiene habits can decrease the buffering capabilities of saliva. Brushing our teeth and using quality mouthwash are measures we can take to keep our mouths hygienic. You may not realize it, but what you’re actually doing as you use the doTERRA On Guard mouthwash and toothpaste is balancing your oral pH.
In a report of preliminary data gathered by doTERRA scientists, pH normalization was assessed from subjects who used the mouthwash twice daily. Measurements of oral pH were taken from 21 subjects over the course of four days. It was found that 70 percent more of the participants had an oral pH that was within the healthy range, after just four days of using doTERRA On Guard Mouthwash.
Make doTERRA On Guard Mouthwash a regular part of your oral hygiene regimen by rinsing with the mouthwash between brushings and after meals to freshen breath and balance oral pH.
