3 Steps to Create an Advertising Plan

This is a simple, three-step plan to help you create an advertising plan for your business. In your quest to reach the rank of Silver, you have tapped out the resources of your address book, neighbors, PTA parents, and even your Facebook friends, and you’re not sure where to go next to keep building your business. Here is how to create a simple advertising plan that will help you think outside of the box and reach those outside of your immediate circle of friends.

Step 1: Set goals
To help you set focused goals, ask yourself the following questions. To keep your answers short and concentrated, try to make your response a list rather than a paragraph. It is important to set realistic and attainable goals that lead to actionable and achievable actions.
  • What do I want to accomplish?
  • What am I willing to do to reach this goal?
The more concrete a goal is, the easier it is to measure and accomplish.
Good Example Goal: Increase enrollments by 20 percent by December 2015.
Step 2: Know Your Audience
Your audience is going to determine how and where your time and money are spent. For example, if you are trying to reach businessmen, you are not going to spend your time advertising to single, college-aged women.
To help narrow down your target audience, you can tailor it to your new goals, or you can compile information from your downline and who has recently signed up under you.
To know your target audience, evaluate the following categories to build a specific niche you would like to reach:
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Income
  • Family
  • Location
  • Occupation
  • Education
  • Lifestyle
  • Past Times
  • Values
  • Wants
  • Attitude toward the product
Sometimes it helps to create a Target Customer profile. This is where, based on the information you created above and people who have signed up recently, you create an ideal person for your product and service.
Step 3: Create Your Message
Now that you know who you are talking to, what are you going to say to your prospective downline or customers? When you are creating your message, there are two words you need to remember: create value. To analyze the value of your product or service, ask yourself the following questions:
  1. Why would someone buy doTERRA® essential oils instead of another brand?
  2. Why would someone sign up under me?
  3. How can this business benefit people?
  4. How is doTERRA different from other companies?
Once you have the answers to those questions, you will want to build your message around those responses.
