10 Steps to Start Your dōTERRA Business the Right Way

Building your own business can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t have a concrete plan in the beginning. Because we understand it’s difficult starting your own business, we have broken down 10 steps to work on, one at a time to build your business the right way:

  1. Ask yourself why you are joining doTERRA. It’s important to have your reasons for joining the business at the forefront of your mind. This will give you something to hold onto when times get tough or discouraging. Perhaps you’re striving to make a profitable business while working from home to stay close to your family, or you may be looking for a career that puts you on a path to travelling. Whatever the reason is, keep it in mind. This reason will drive your success during times of hardship.
  2. Complete your Loyalty Rewards Program (LRP) order every month, and be sure to order new products and actually use them. This can’t be emphasized enough! You have to keep up on your order to receive the full perks of being on the LRP membership. It’s equally as important to try new products. Often times, we get stuck in a groove using the same products, but this can be crippling for your business. Your customers and downline will come to you when they have questions on which product they should order for every possible scenario, and if you don’t have the answer, they’ll more than likely leave confused and less motivated to complete their 125 PV order, which does you no favors. Take initiative and use every product doTERRA has to offer. This will make you the Wellness Guru.
  3. Research and decide on a compensation plan. Do your research on the plans available. Each one offers amazing perks, but not every plan may not be right for you. Educate yourself on each plan and consult your upline on their recommendations for you and your goals. It may take time to find the best fit for you, but once you do you’ll see how amazing doTERRA’s Compensation Plans are!
  4. Connect with your upline and decide on a plan of action. When you’re first starting the business, it’s always good to keep in touch with your upline. Let them help you draw out a plan of action. What will your short-term and long-term goals be? How many enrollments will you strive to get each month? When will you plan to host a class on your own? Which events will you attend to network? What tools will you use to educate yourself and others with? These are just some ideas you may want to discuss with your upline, because your success is theirs, and visa versa.
  5. Share a product with a family member or friend. Then share a product with someone you don’t know. It can be intimidating sharing the business with others, so one great way to get your foot in the door is practicing your pitch with those you feel comfortable and safe with—like family members and close friends. Let them give you feedback on your approach, and then refine your pitch as necessary. Once you you have experimented with sharing in your circle, get out of your comfort zone and share with someone you don’t know. Provide them with a product that meets a need of theirs, as well as educative material they can refer to for their own personal research. This is why it’s so crucial you become familiar with each product and their benefits. Become the Wellness Guru.
  6. Follow-up and start a dialogue. The follow-up will either make or break your business. Statistically speaking, 80% of sales are made on the fourth to twelfth customer contact. This means you need to be vigilant, while not being abrasive. There’s a learned skill in the follow-up. Fortunately, doTERRA offers sales trainings throughout the year, so keep your eyes and ears open for such events!
  7. Attend Corporate Trainings. These types of events are not only the time and place you’ll gain your sales training and networking connections, you’ll also learn of new products and tools created by corporate to help you succeed. This events have an enormous team behind them planning them down to the nitty-gritty to ensure you have a wonderful and educational time! Some events are based on rank, while others are open to all Wellness Advocates, so be sure to check out the ones you qualify for and get a jump-start on your planning!
  8. Learn to promote yourself of social media. Social media is the way business is done today, and knowing how to navigate and promote yourself on many different platforms will you a competitive edge.
  9. Teach a class with your upline. Your leaders can provide you with the guidance and confidence you need to step out and teach your own classes. Of course, we start with baby-steps. Learning from your leaders will give you a blueprint on success in this business and an excellent starting point for you to branch off from.
  10. Teach a class on your own. After you’ve gained the confidence from teaching a class with your leaders, you are ready to teach a class on your own, but don’t worry, doTERRA offers many resources for you to use in your class to help you! We offer tools—like Class Kits, Empowered Success Guides, webinars, and events, just to name a few ideas! Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try.
