Mellow, unique, and blissfully fragrant, Green Mandarin essential oil stands on its own amidst the citrus family. Green Mandarin essential oil comes from the same fruit as Red Mandarin essential oil. Red Mandarin comes from the fully ripened fruit, while Green Mandarin comes from fruit harvested prior to ripening. Even though the Green Mandarin essential oil is distilled from unripe fruit, Green Mandarin’s aroma and flavor is less sour or bitter than most other citrus oils.
Green Mandarin essential oil is sustainably sourced in Brazil. doTERRA works with small- and large-scale farmers to produce this versatile oil.
Mandarin trees are typically raised for their red mandarin harvest. To give the greatest crop yield, the trees are thinned while the fruit is still young and unripe. Approximately 60-70 percent of the green fruit is removed from the tree during this thinning process. In the past, this unripe fruit was discarded as waste or left on the ground to decompose. However, the cold-pressed green rinds yield a fragrant, uplifting essential oil, which has allowed doTERRA to transform this waste product into opportunity for growers.
The sale of the trimmed green mandarin harvest creates a sustainable, steady income throughout the year for growers, reduces green waste, and yields a beautifully distinct essential oil with unique chemistry.
Also known as the clementine mandarin or tangerine, the Citrus nobilis is one of many hybrid varieties of the mandarin orange. The mandarin is a citrus tree with fragrant white flowers that mature into small, juicy oranges. The unripe fruit is used in the distillation of Green Mandarin essential oil.
This variety of mandarin tree is native to Southeastern Asia and the Philippines. Around 1850, the plant came to Italy, and was later brought to Brazil by Italian immigrants. The hot, humid Brazilian climate and the growers’ expertise contributes to the remarkable Green Mandarin oil.
Green Mandarin has a gentle aroma that blends well with earthy, herbaceous essential oils such as Basil oil, Sandalwood oil, Lavender oil, Spearmint oil, and other citrus oils like Grapefruit oil, Wild Orange oil, Tangerine oil, Lemon oil, Lime oil, and Bergamot oil.
