Herbal Essential Oil Hairspray

INTRODUCTION
Well, it’s time… time to talk seriously about hair products. We all know that styling our strands is more than just a necessity—it’s a confidence booster! But when commercial styling products are filled with synthetic additives that can dry and damage your hair in the long run, what’s the real gain? Keeping your hair in place is a no-go if it also means your hair looks brittle and unhealthy, which is why store-bought hairsprays can be so problematic.

Making your own herbal essential oil hairspray isn’t just economical and easy, it can also improve the healthy appearance of your hair. It only requires a few simple ingredients and naturally sourced essential oils—many of which you probably already have on hand.

The essential oils we suggest are all known for their ability to give a soothing sensation to the scalp as well as create healthy, beautiful looking locks, but the recipe is super flexible. Customize it with your favorite essential oils and adjust the recipe to create your preferred level of hold.

SUPPLIES
Tip: Use more or less sugar depending on how strong you want the hold to be.

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. In saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves, then remove from the heat and allow to cool to at least room temperature.
  2. Add the essential oil drops to the spray bottle, and then pour in the cooled sugar water.
  3. Tighten the cap of the spray bottle and use as you would any other hairspray.

CLOSING STATEMENT
Experiment with different amounts of our suggested essential oils to get the right scent or try out your own favorite aromas. Just be careful if you choose citrus oils, as they can lighten your hair if exposed to UV light—their aromas are amazing, but they may not be the best choice for your hairspray.
