dōTERRA Europe Convention 2020

Elevate - Important Update

After consultation with dōTERRA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Russell Osguthorpe and other governmental and medical sources, and in light of recent recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) around the risks of COVID-19 Coronavirus, doTERRA has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 European Convention in Rome.

As you are undoubtedly seeing on the news, large gatherings may pose a health risk, especially for vulnerable populations. As a health and wellness company, it’s our foremost obligation to encourage the safety and health of our extended doTERRA family, as well as the broader community by helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Postponing the 2020 European Convention in Rome serves as a preventative measure that follows the ever-developing guidance of international authorities trying their best to manage this crisis.

While we are disappointed by this change of plans, we believe that being responsive in limiting the broadening reach of the virus is imperative. The COVID-19 outbreak is a rapidly evolving situation and the landscape is constantly changing. The Italian government has taken extraordinary measures to stop the spread of the virus. The Rome convention is a large-scale event that draws people from across the country and around the globe. While we hope that the situation is improved by May, out of caution and care for the doTERRA family, teams and communities, and out of respect for the Italian government and their efforts, cancelling the event is the right thing to do.

Dr. Osguthorpe continues to recommend the following evidence-based procedures to help manage any concerns and decrease the transmission of respiratory viruses, including COVID-19:

  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol can be used—dōTERRA On Guard™ Purifying Mist contains 64% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects often.

We also recommend adhering to travel advisories issued by WHO and CDC.

Some airlines, hotels, Airbnb, and other travel-related services have issued refund and cancellation policies related to COVID-19. Please review these policies for how they will impact your personal situation.

Dr. Osguthorpe, in coordination with the executive team, will continue to monitor the situation, and will communicate relevant information as it becomes available.

We will be sending out a further communication in all languages later this week to address many of your questions.
