Made in a Minute: Dryer Sheets with Lavender and Wild Orange

Tackle your fabric static and reduce your waste all in one go! Dryer sheets are great for your clothes and they’re also a breeze to make—you just need the know-how. We put together a simple recipe repurposing old fabric you have lying around the house as well as common pantry staples. Best of all, we’ve added the calming aroma of Lavender essential oil combined with the refreshing aroma and cleaning power of Wild Orange essential oil to give your clothes a beautiful scent. This project will only take a minute, and after one use you’ll wonder why you ever used store-bought dryer sheets in the first place.

New to essential oils?

Supplies

  • Fabric (sweatshirt, cotton t-shirt, flannel blanket, or other fabric of choice)
  • Glass storage container with lid (32 oz. Mason jar)
  • 1 ½ cups white vinegar
  • ½ cup distilled water
  • 10 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops Wild Orange essential oil

Directions

  1. Cut twenty 12 cm x 12 cm squares out of your fabric. Fold the pieces of cloth and place them inside your container.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine white vinegar, water, and Lavender and Wild Orange essential oil drops.
  3. Pour the vinegar mixture over cloths in the jar until moistened, but not dripping. If you have extra vinegar mixture, that’s okay! Just set it aside for the next batch of dryer sheets.
  4. Replace the lid of your jar and gently turn it to lightly saturate every piece of fabric.
  5. Use one to two sheets in your next load—just throw them into the dryer with your clothes the same way you would with store-bought dryer sheets!

This batch of dryer sheets will last you 10-20 loads of laundry. After they come out of the dryer, store them up for another round. Use any of the vinegar mixture you had leftover from your first batch of sheets, or mix together another quick mixture. Just be sure to run them through the wash every few weeks, depending on your usage.
