Adaptiv™ DIY Hand Warmers

During winter, it can be hard to keep your spirits up and your hands warm. These do it yourself hand warmers can help with both!

Microwaveable hand warmers are easy to make and reuse. For fabric, consider upcycling an old cotton or flannel shirt, but whatever you choose be sure it’s a fabric that’s naturally sourced! Synthetic fabrics may melt or burn when heated. To fill the hand warmers, you can use wheat, rice, flax seed, or even cherry pits. For this DIY hand warmer we used flax seed, which seems to hold heat well and has a less distinguishable smell than other grains. This DIY project makes one hand warmer, so double, triple, and quadruple this recipe as desired!

Items Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Sew three sides of the fabric squares together, leaving a few inches open on one side.
  2. Turn the fabric right side out.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl, mix the flax seed with Adaptiv oil. Allow the mixture to sit for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Use the scented flax seed to fill the hand warmers about three-quarters full, and then stitch closed.
  5. Heat hand warmers 25–30 seconds in the microwave, allow to sit for approximately 30 seconds, then place in your pockets to warm your hands. Enjoy!

Tip: Replenish the hand warmers with a drop of Adaptiv oil on the outside of the warmer as desired.
