Before beginning distillation, the plant material must be cleaned and separated. This involves removing any dead plant material, weeds, foreign plants, and unwanted plant parts. It also involves washing the plants to remove any soil, insects, or microbial organisms that may be present. Both manual and automated techniques exist for the cleaning process that can be completed either manually or with a combination of manual and automated processes.
