dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation™ donates to Globalife Journeys

Non-profit organization Globalife Journeys provides necessary maintenance to Guatemalan women and children's empowerment shelter, Nuevos Horizontes

doTERRA Wellness Advocates Hope and Kenneth Clark had the opportunity as young adults to observe the revitalizing power that humanitarian work can have in an impoverished community. With this background, they decided to establish the non-profit organization Globalife Journeys.

Since its inception in 2008, Globalife has allowed the Clarks to arrange mission trips and provide relief to communities in Mexico, Guatemala, Nigeria, and Nepal. Each mission’s trip focuses on the specific needs of a community, utilizes the strengths of each team member, and provides relief anywhere from comforting children battling cancer to serving individuals with disabilities or addictions.

Globalife trips also include medical clinics, hygiene classes, essential oils classes, and sewing classes; giving makeovers and haircuts to the women; offering crafts, books, and school supplies to the children; contributing clothes and shoes to those living in the shelter; and providing emotional support.

The mission scheduled for the summer of 2016 had the specific mission of completing one of only two women and children’s domestic and sexual abuse shelters in Guatemala. This shelter, called Nuevos Horizontes, was sponsored by their upline and doTERRA leader Marc Garret.

Donations were used to help the existing shelter with significant maintenance and additional needs such as:

  • Installing and repairing kitchen faucet and drainage
  • Repairing the brick kitchen stove
  • Repairing/replacing four toilets and two showers
  • Installing new lighting in nearly half of the facility
  • Providing new cookware, cooking/eating/serving utensils, and drinking cups to the kitchen
  • Providing 35 chairs for the dining room
  • Outfitting all 25 beds in the facility with new blankets
  • Providing cloth diapers for all the babies
  • Providing personal hygiene supply bags for all the women
  • Outfitting every woman and child in the shelter with a new pair of shoes, 42 pair total
  • Stocking/updating the medical cabinet
  • Providing makeovers and/or haircuts for those interested
  • Providing educational supplies for the school room and nursery
  • Installing a playground for the children

The team on this mission worked tirelessly to mentor, counsel, laugh and cry with, listen to, play with, hug, and encourage those living at the shelter, all while providing constant service. “We are extremely grateful for your support on this project,” says Wellness Advocate Hope Clark of the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation. “Because of [the support from the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation], this year was a phenomenal success!”
