The dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation™ in Japan

Japan’s in-country foundation funds provide relief to Japanese in need, 2016

Exposure to radiation is a serious threat to those living in Fukushima, Japan—especially for children. For this reason, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation in Japan developed the Fukushima Kids Project in 2015. This project allows children living in these areas the opportunity to safely play outside, and has continued to expand as the project grows more successful.

After the earthquake in eastern Japan in 2016, the risk of exposure to radiation increased and the Fukushima Kids Project expanded to include a project known as the Nourishing Project for Fukushima Kids. This project provides access to medical care for families on Kume Island in Okinawa that are experiencing health issues, and continues to support outdoor activities to promote healthy lifestyles. Between April and October 2016, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation in Japan raised and donated over $16,000 USD to these efforts.

The earthquake in Kumamoto also provided an opportunity for Japanese locals to become involved in disaster relief efforts. Just two days after the earthquake, Japanese doTERRA Wellness Advocates were volunteering their time and assisting the victims of the disaster. doTERRA employees in Japan also offered free massages to the hotel and market staff where victims were accommodated, and monetary donations were used toward relief and rebuilding efforts. In total, almost $130,000 USD worth of product, supplies, and donations were raised for these efforts.

Finally, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation in Japan established a partnership this year with the Japanese nonprofit organization MESH Support (Medical Evacuation Service with Helicopter). This partnership is providing medical services via aircraft to relieve the discrepancy in medical services from Okinawa. Between April and October of 2016, over $10,000 USD was donated to support this project.
