dōTERRA Employee and University Student Raises Money for Operation Underground Railroad

The dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation™ supported the efforts of dōTERRA corporate employee Lyle Brewer as he raised money during a fundraising event held at Brigham Young University.

As a Public Relations student at Brigham Young University and a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), doTERRA corporate employee Lyle Brewer had the opportunity to work alongside his peers in PRSSA to host a fundraising event in November 2016 for the nonprofit organization Operation Underground Railroad (OUR Rescue).

Part of Brewer’s responsibility during the organization of this fundraiser was to establish sponsors for the event in order to help the event raise as much money for OUR Rescue as possible. The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation donated a basket of doTERRA product for auction, together with Target’s donation of concessions, to raise money for the event. OUR Rescue merchandise was also available for purchase if patrons wished to donate that way.

Although admission was free, $3,100 in donations to OUR Rescue was raised by the BYU Chapter of PRSSA at this event. The 512 people in attendance were made aware of the fundraiser via more than 30 clubs at BYU that were involved in promoting and advertising the event, as well as by a mention of the event in the Daily Herald.

In addition to raising funds for OUR Rescue, the fundraiser served to educate attendees about sex slavery and OUR Rescue’s mission to eradicate the problem. The Abolitionist film was shown as part of the fundraiser, and was followed by a question and answer segment by Jerry Gowen, Chief Operations Officer at OUR Rescue. The Provo Police Department of Information addressed the audience as well. The night then concluded with a presentation by Angela Krois, event manager of the nonprofit organization Time to Rescue, an organization that regularly puts on fundraising events for OUR Rescue.

“It was a wonderful experience to be able to help with this awesome initiative,” says Brewer. “To help raise money that will go toward the rescue of children from slavery and sex trafficking around the world—it’s wonderful.”

OUR Rescue exists to rescue children from sex trafficking worldwide by utilizing some of the world’s experts in extraction operations and anti-child trafficking efforts. The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation announced OUR Rescue as an official partner of the foundation at the doTERRA convention held in September 2016.
